Swift quickly rose up the ranks, beginning by playing roles in the theater for children and eventually performing in front of a huge crowd. Swift was just 11 when she performed The Star-Spangled Banner at a Philadelphia 76ers Basketball game. The following year, she began writing songs and picked up the guitar. Swift took inspiration from artists in country music such as Shania Twain, the Dixie Chicks as well as the Chicks to come up with original songs that expressed the apathy she experienced at 13 years old. Swift's parents moved her to Tennessee at 13 after selling their Pennsylvania farm. This enabled Swift to devote more time looking for labels to promote traditional music from Nashville.
